In a small American town, two rookie police officers embark on their first night on the job. As they patrol the city at night, they encounter a speeding car on the highway engaged in a heated chase. Preparing to intervene, the officers deploy spike strips to deflate the tires of the vehicles, only to discover that one of the cars involved in the chase was actually a cartel's getaway vehicle, confiscating a small cache of money and firearms. Faced with the weight of their actions, the town's police chief warns them that the cartel will not take the loss of their assets lightly, and that the officers are now targets themselves.
