In post-war Hong Kong, kung fu master Ip Man and his family settle and open a kung fu academy to restore peace to the disoriented youth. His growing popularity amidst the city's turmoil brings him and his innovative Wing Chun style into conflict with other martial artists, most notably the aggressive Hung Quan and his followers.
